Senior Web Developer

We currently require an experienced web developer to join our web team.

The Candidate must have in-depth knowledge of PHP and MySQL on Linux servers. The successful applicant will have a good understanding and expertise of the following:

•    HTML5
•    PHP
•    Object Ordinated Programming
•    CSS3
•    JavaScript

The candidate would benefit from knowledge or experience in the following:

•    Yii Framework
•    CSS Pre-processors such as LESS or SCSS
•    jQuery or similar JavaScript frameworks
•    Bootstrap 3+ or similar CSS frameworks
•    Wordpress
•    Payment gateways
•    Experience with API e.g., REST, XML
•    Photoshop Skills
•    Version Control

This position is full time, working alongside the existing development team.

The role will include a broad range of web development tasks for the diverse mix of clients. On a daily basis, the workflow will include a variety of back-end development projects using a PHP framework, and front-end user interface working with HTML5, CSS3, and Jquery. As well as new projects, the development team maintains existing websites and applications, with amends to the existing client portfolio. We are looking for someone who can display a passion for learning and achieving the best results. New skills are also welcomed, and someone who can add a new perspective in the team would do well. The role is not entirely client-facing, but the ability to liaise with clients, agree on specifications, and plan timeframes will be a significant advantage.

The role is based in our offices on the outskirts of Kingskerswell. There are no public transport routes to the office, although there are car sharing options. This position offers great career development opportunities for the right candidate.

Apprentice Software Engineer / Web Developer
BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions

Vacancy offered as part of the University of Exeter’s BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship duration: 4 years
Salary: £13k per annum (year 1), £15k pa (year 2), £17k pa (year 3), £21k pa (year 4)

In partnership with the University of Exeter, Clockwork Marketing is recruiting an apprentice Software Engineer to work alongside our web development team. This degree apprenticeship vacancy is offered under the Level 6 Apprenticeship Standard for Digital and Technology Solutions Professionals.
We are based in beautiful rural offices just outside Newton Abbot, South Devon. The successful candidate will be joining a busy and established marketing agency, specialising in travel and hospitality. Our clients include a range of gorgeous hotels, savvy accommodation providers and award-winning travel destinations.

Role description

The job will involve the creation, optimisation or modification of websites developed for clients, and our software solutions. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the research and development of new technologies with guidance from the senior developer.
As the candidate develops, we will introduce additional tools and projects ensuring a constantly evolving environment throughout the four years.
The candidate will be using technologies such as the following on a day to day basis:
• Git/Version Control
• Virtualmin/Webmin
• PHP
• HTML5
• CSS3
• Javascript
• jQuery
• MySQL
• Package Management tools such as Bower & Composer

Training provided

Training will be led by the senior developer at Clockwork. Other team members will also coach the candidate in different areas of the business. Online training will be available via CodeSchool with the opportunity of travelling to conferences.
The successful candidate will be enrolled as a Degree Apprentice on the University of Exeter’s BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions programme. Through the programme, they will work for an education in business IT which combines technical and professional skills. The knowledge and training gained will then be implemented within the Clockwork workplace environment.
The University of Exeter programme is delivered through a blended learning model which includes:
- 3 residentials of approximately 3 days’ duration, held at the University. This will include lecture, tutorial and workshop time, as well as opportunity to meet peers from other employers

- Online learning to be undertaken during the working week (typically up to one day per week), including web seminars, interactive activities, reading and assessments

- Reflective practice, assessing project work undertaken in the workplace

Working week

Working days will be Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm with 30 minutes for lunch.
The candidate will work 37.5 hours a week and typically up to one day per working week will be spent working on content delivered by the University through an online learning environment. You will also attend three residentials of approximately three days’ duration at University during the academic year.
This job is office based with many hours in front of a computer, however frequent breaks are allowed!

Future prospects

An Apprentice joining Clockwork Marketing will not only learn about software solutions and web development but also learn about the world of marketing. 
Marketing has changed more in the past two years than in the past fifty years, and developments in technology are changing at an exponential rate. Being at the heart of this change will provide an important and valuable first step into the world of business and the fast changing world of web development.
This position is likely to lead to a permanent job offer. Prospects to develop within the company could include progression into other areas of the business or becoming the go-to expert for aspects of our technology.

Who we’re looking for

An interest in web technologies and development is essential to this job, however, we would also like to receive applications from candidates with an interest in mobile application development.
Candidates will be expected to satisfy the entry requirements for this degree apprenticeship set by the University of Exeter. The typical offer is AAB at A-Level, or equivalent. Where candidates are awaiting A-Level results, any offer made will be conditional on meeting the entry requirements.
